100 Mile Ultra – Race with a Meaning

Published by Paul on

Peter Kline is 62.  He loves his family, God, work and running with meaning. In fact, this November 15-16 Peter will undertake an ultra run of 100 miles in Las Vegas.  100 miles is one thing, pushing his favorite developmentally disabled friends he calls, “Captains,” for the distance takes ultra running to a new level.  He has chosen the 100 year anniversary of his employer, Merrill Lynch, to set a world record attempt.  Captains and their families will be arriving from New York, Seattle, Tri-Cities (WA), Phoenix, San Diego and Denver. He has completed 10 marathons with a single Captain each time.

Peter brings this message: “The real reason we are doing this endeavor is for the children and their families.  It has always been about the messages of inclusion, motivation and encouragement.  I will start running about 10:30 pm Saturday night, run 73 miles on the UNLV track and then approximately 1.5 miles to the 4 pm starting line of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon at Mandalay Bay.”

Peter will push a series of Captains for approximately 1-3 hours each (Braydon, Shamus, Rylee, Chucky, Erik & Jackson).  The Captains will arrive in stages with their families during the night and next day.  True love involves making life better for some one else.  Loving others is a theme of the Bible embracing humble service and sacrifice.  A real miracle has happened for so many pieces to come together with the help of many volunteers.   This truly will be an inspiring weekend.  I will be there to support Peter, have a pray time with those involved and shuttle participants.

Paul,

This gives a whole new meaning to “In the long run…”

May God bless Peter, you, and all the captains as you serve and bring glory to ‘The Captain’!
