Run and Not Grow Weary –100 Miles in 24 hours

Published by Paul on

This is blog 8 in the Living Perspectives 35th Anniversary series detailing biblical wisdom and verses that have been life changing .  This week Isaiah 40:28-31:

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

I can hardly count the men and women I have mentored over the years who were discouraged with job, marriage, life, relationship with the Lord, or financial hardship.  The words above from God’s playbook have been reassuring and restorative.

Below a story is unfolding of dedicated families raising and loving their children with severe disabilities having to renew their strength each day. I have no idea what it is like to be tired and weary in relation to these families.  And yet I am strengthened by their strength, endurance, persistence and love.

PETER KLINE TO RUN 100 MILE ULTRA PUSHING YOUNG PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES — June 17 & 18.

This month I am helping Peter prepare for this ultra-running event & marathon—100 miles in 24 hours.  With help from Brooks Running (donations of running shirts), the UW granting use of their track, and a group of dedicated pushers, 12 young people and families will swell with joy and pride as they ride with Peter and then participate in the Seattle Marathon.

THE TWO DAY 100 MILE ULTRA

The event kicks off with a Saturday morning gathering of participants. Beginning about 1:30, Peter will begin his trek around the UW track pushing the first rider/athlete.  Peter will continue pushing a series of rider/athletes throughout the afternoon and night until 7 AM when the RockNRoll Marathon launches at the UW. I will deliver a new rider/athlete every 2 hours.

At 7 AM all 12 rider/athletes will line up at the starting line ahead of the thousands running.  Pusher/athletes will be ready to propel each of our rider/athletes for the entire 26.2 miles finishing at Century Link field.

Peter, Trainer and Rider Athlete

Many, many lives (runners, security, support staff) will be touched by this event.  Our rider/athletes have severe disabilities but joy radiates when you are around them.  Peter says he gets so much more from his athletes than he can give.

I need some help!!  Lodging!!  We have rider/athletes and family flying in from Chicago and Las Vegas who need housing (2 nights), and driving from the Tri Cities and Marysville (1 night). Several local families and athletes will commute from home.  You will be blessed by them, plus,  I pick up and deliver the athletes (Uber on steroids). 206.295.1820 or [email protected].

Want to help financially to support our athletes?    Healing the Children is a sponsor  www.htcorwwa.org – Designate “Marathons with Meaning” in the WRITE A NOTE box and proceeds come to our event.  Donations are deductible.

Pray for Peter that he will have energy, stay healthy and will not grow weary and for each of the pushers who have volunteered to bring happiness to their athletes and families.

Have a great day.
