Joy and Blessings…Angels located in Seattle

Peter Kline ran and pushed special needs athletes for 24 hours.  He ran 73.8 miles on the UW track and finished at Century Link in the RocknRoll Marathon-100 miles.  The special needs participants (Captains) ranged in age from 11 to 32.

I have come to appreciate the camaraderie of the marathon community of runners. I am convinced that they have genes for happy, hilarious and helping.  I am talking about the Angels that pushed the Captains not to mention our favorite ultra-marathoner, Peter.  At the finish, the joy that radiated from the Angels and the energy was an experience I will not soon forget.  The lightest Captain was 60 lbs and the heaviest weight, 186 (Peter Ruiz).  Ironically his Angel, Kerry Wate, was appropriately named and did a super heroic effort up some very steep hills.

2 Different Game Faces Pre Marathon

The smiles and laughter that filled the air during the pre race event on Saturday, to the smiles at the finish on Sunday, speak to the nature of the long distance runner.  Peter’s organization, Marathons with Meaning, attracts those who have a desire to put others first, to serve those with special needs and their wonderful families.

Over the 35 years of giving Living Perspectives counsel, I often found these words to be life changing:   Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.  Philippians 4:8-9              

Angels, Captains and families and the many volunteers brought these words to life during the days of June 17 and 18 in Seattle.  Have a great day.

Paul

Paul founded his consulting practice, Career Life Institute, in 1992, and the Living Perspectives ministry in 1982. He has mentored hundreds of life coaching clients and assisted numerous organizations with strategic planning. Paul holds a Master’s Degree in Psychology and has written a book, How a Man Handles Conflict at Work. Paul has ministered in E. Europe, and in Ethiopia since 2004 (microfinance, education, and prisons). Currently his active mentoring ministry is in Seattle to individuals and Christian non-profit organizations. He spent 16 years as a leader/volunteer with Congregations for the Homeless in Bellevue and is currently involved in working with those praying for revival in the Greater Seattle area and bringing opportunity to different populations in S. Seattle.
